The Nut of Prosperity
Toree Q.

The sound of rain in the forest is not alone. Under the ancient oak, beside giant boulder, something stirs. Flashes of red, like the flickering flames of fire, dance. As the frenzy of red slows to a stop, it is clear that not fire was under the tree, but a bushy tailed squirrel.
The flickering red squirrel holds a peculiar nut between its paws. It scampers the boulder, where a patch of rock not covered by moss lays. The squirrel takes a few hops back, then charges at the rocky patch. The nut is no less than in perfect shape, which is more than what can be said for the squirrel.
The flame of red leaps to a branch on the old oak tree. Mouth opened wide, his teeth glint in the dying sunlight. Almost as if in slow motion, his jaws close. His teeth touch the peculiar nut. Touching the nut only to find he had made the wrong move. His teeth do nothing, and the flame of fire drops the nut.
A loud rumble shakes the ground. When the red squirrel goes to find the owner of this roar, he stumbles across a small road. Ears twitch with excitement. Maby he could drop the nut and let a car crack it!
As the red flicker watches it with anticipation, he quivers. As a rumble gets louder, he jumps. The car runs over the nut!
Hisssssssssss. The tire popped. The squirrel seems to sigh. As he grabbed the nut, he wonders if he’ll ever open it.
As the flickering flame slowly walks to the ancient oak. He smells something. A walnut! As he bites down, it opens.
Now readers, I hope you could find the moral of this short story. It is not a usual moral, like friendship matters, or kindness matters. It’s that even if something in life doesn't work out, it still may be useful. In this story, the red squirrel learns different ways to open a nut, and now can do it more easily. I hope that you someday are able to use this thought, and that it helps you in life.
