Melissa and the Dog

“Can I have a dog?” asked Melissa to her mom who was baking in the kitchen.

“Why?!”

“Because I’m bored,” answered Melissa.

“Ask your father,” said Melissa’s mom.

So, Melissa walked out of the kitchen and went outside to where her father was mowing the lawn.

“Can I have a dog?” asked Melissa to her dad.

“Why?!”

“Because mom told me to ask you,”

“Ask your sister,” said Melissa’s dad.

So, Mellisa walked inside to her sister’s room where her sister was writing in her journal.

“I want a dog,” said Mellisa.

“Why?!”

“Because mom told me to ask dad and he told me to ask you,” answered Melissa.

“Ask your brother,” suggested Melissa’s sister.

So, Melissa walked next door to where her brother was reading.

“I want a dog,” said Melissa.

“Why?!”

“Because mom told me to ask dad and dad told me to ask my sister and she told me to ask you,”

“Try asking Grandma,”

So, Melissa walked out of her brother’s room and walked down the hallway and into the living room where Melissa’s Grandma was knitting.

“I want a dog!” said Melissa.

“Why?!”

“Because mom told me to ask dad and dad told me to ask my sister and she told me to ask my brother and he told me to ask you,”

“Go ask your grandfather,”

So, Melissa walked out of the living room and went up the stairs to the study where her grandfather was currently napping.

“I WANT A DOG!” yelled Melissa.

“And why, Melissa do you-,” 

“Because” interrupted Melissa, “my mom told me to ask my father and he told me to ask my sister and she told me to ask my brother, and my brother told me to ask Grandma and Grandma told me to ask you!”

“Well,” said Grandpa, “Your family really does like dogs,”

“Really?” asked Melissa.

“Yes, your grandma loves to knit and sell sweaters for dogs, your dad mows lawns for people who have them, your sister likes to write about them, your brother likes to read and learn about them, and I like to nap and dream about them.”

“But, what about mom? What does she do?” asked Melissa.

“Oh, she’s allergic,”

“Ohhhhh…”
