A Puzzling Interview with My Papa
Gaby O.

Hi! My name is Gaby, and if you were to come to my house, you would see a bunch of pictures in frames plastered on the walls. But those aren’t pictures. Can you take a guess at what they are? That’s right, those so-called pictures are actually puzzles! Now you may be thinking, “They probably just bought them all put together in a frame and hung them up” but to all of you skeptics, that’s incorrect. Some very clever masterminds are behind these puzzles. And I’m talking about my dad and me.
We have put together 1…2…3.., OK I don’t even know how many puzzles we have put together, but it’s a lot! So, you’re just going to have to find out in this article where I interview my dad about puzzles and why he likes them. Enough spoilers for now, let’s just get on with the questions!
Why did you start?
“Well, we were on vacation at Seabrook, and it was kind of a rainy day out, so we bought a puzzle and I really enjoyed working on it during vacation, so it just kind of became a thing I like to do to relax.”
Why do you like doing it?
“Because I can just focus on figuring out the puzzle, and I don’t have to think of other things like work and current events -- I can just zone out and relax with the puzzle.”
What’s your favorite one you’ve done?
“I think my favorite one is the “World of the Romantics” (the Romantics were a group of famous poets). It was pretty challenging, but it was also very fun -- it wasn’t so hard that I became frustrated, and I was able to make steady progress on it.
What was the first puzzle you did?
“Boy, that’s a tough one. I mean, with you I think it’s the Harry Potter banquet scene we have framed upstairs. As you recall, that one was very difficult because all the pieces are shaped strangely and it was sometimes hard to figure out how they fit together.”
What’s the biggest mistake you ever made in a puzzle?
“Probably the time I placed the edge pieces wrong, so we had to try and find the one that was placed wrong, which was very time-consuming and difficult to figure out. Also, I seem to lose a piece almost every time, but have been fortunate thus far to find the missing pieces later.”
What’s the worst puzzle you’ve done?
“Well, probably this other Harry Potter one we recently bought. The pieces didn’t fit snugly together and everything looked the same. It was taking far too long, and wasn’t fun, so I just gave up!”
How many have you done a puzzle with me?
“About 11, I think. And all of them were 1000 pieces.”
OK here’s a juicy question, if you were to make a puzzle, what would it be of?
“Definitely the map of Hyrule from Legend of Zelda -- we can call it “The World of Zelda.”
“NOT EVEN A PUZZLE OF THE FAMILY?!”
“Nope, sorry Gaby, that’s my honest answer.” 😊
“Ugh, fine.”
OK, last question. When do you like to do puzzles?
“When we are on a relaxing family vacation, or when I have football or baseball game on in the background.”
“Thank you for joining us today Mr. Owen… I mean, Papa.”
“Any time! And thank you for interviewing me, Gaby!”
Did you enjoy that? I’m hoping you did. Anyway, if you made it here thank you for reading my article and maybe next time you go on vacation, get yourself a puzzle! (Trust me, you’ll love it!) <3
