The Library on 13th street

Eason Z.

The library on 13th street was a mysterious place. If you listen hard enough, you can hear the winds whispering through the bookcases, as if they were telling stories.

Jane’s favorite place to go after school was the library. It was quiet, especially after the endless chatter of the students in school. Her favorite hobby was reading, and the librarians were kind to her. She never really noticed the wind whispering and did not like any other social interactions. But one day, everything changed.

The library announced a sudden closure, due to “routine maintenance.” Jane was shocked at this message and decided that there was a different reason for the closure. She started by asking the workers outside the building.

“Do you know why it is closed?” she asked.

“The pipes are leaking, and some mice got into some wires,” one said.

“Can I go inside?”

“Sorry, but the inside has a lot of new materials.”

She decided to sneak in through the secret back door. It was, luckily, unguarded and unlocked. She walked in and suddenly felt cold. The wind was chilling, and she thought she could hear whispering. She walked to the reading room, and saw a whitish, ghoulish figure. She shook her head and blinked, but it was still there, reading a book. “Hello,” Jane whispered. The ghost saw her and quickly disappeared, the book dropping to the floor.
